July 2020 Update: Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the following fall 2020 events have been shifted to VIRTUAL sessions:
- September 20: Laura Stevens concert and class
- Review and Contest
- November 14: Flute Fair
The 2020 RAFA Artist Competition has been postponed until Fall 2021.
Due to COVID -19, the RAFA board of directors has voted to postpone our 6th annual Artist Competition until November 2021.
Six semi-finalists chosen from the recorded preliminary round will perform for a panel of judges and the general public in November 2021 (TBD). Up to 3 finalists will be selected to perform for a panel of judges and the Flute Fair audience in November 2021 (TBD). The first place winner will receive a cash prize of $1000 and will be invited to perform at an event during the Raleigh Area Flute Association’s 2022-2023 season. The second place winner will receive a cash prize of $500. The third place winner will receive a cash prize of $250.
July 2020 Update: RAFA’s flute choirs will not meet in person in the fall of 2020. Auditions will take place virtually but have not been scheduled at this time. Directors will reach out to current members about participating virtually.
In addition to CDC recommendations and guidelines, we are closely monitoring scientific studies that pertain to flute-playing:
